I GOT THE INTERNSHIP IN JAPAN!!!
*

So I am now officially going to be spending fall semester interning as an ALT with Interac somewhere in Japan! I’m not sure where I’ll be placed yet but I’m sure I’ll get enough options to be able to pick somewhere great! I may decide to stay for spring semester as well, but we’ll see! Another option I might take advantage of is the choice to spend part of my internship living with a Japanese host family
I think I would really like to do that!
Just in case any of you reading this are currently in college/university (or will be soon) and are interested in the program, or just generally curious, I’ll outline the process for it!
First~ Filled out the application and resume on their website and wrote an essay.
Second~ Passed the initial screening and was selected for a phone interview. The phone interview went well and so they decided to invite me to a seminar!
Third~ Attended one of the few seminars they host in the US. This was the hardest part I think! It’s the last step before they decide whether they want to hire you or not and so you’re really put to the test!
At my seminar location there were only two other people who had made it to this step in the process. I arrived to the location in smart business attire (blazer, suit pants, heels, etc) and first off there was a presentation on the company. Then we had to take grammar and personality tests. After that we were recorded while giving the mock teaching presentation we had prepared. Mine lasted about 6-8 minutes and I basically had to pretend like I was teaching English to students.
I started off with an introduction and then had to read aloud from a script to demonstrate my English. After that I did an activity teaching colors and an activity teaching different words. After the presentation is all finished they interview you for about an hour and then comes the wait! Luckily I only had to wait about a week and a half before they let me know yesterday
So besides that I am also excited about my summer camp job, which is coming up soon! I’m also visiting a friend in San Francisco after my summer classes get out on June 10th! Definitely going to be doing some sight seeing and shopping there

I received my seminar information from Interac the other day and I’ve read over it probably a dozen times by now – I’m so excited for it (and there is a ton of information to go over)! I’m really hoping I’ll be able to land a job interning as an ALT this fall. The seminar is on May 1st and seems pretty intense. I’ll have to attend an information session and take a grammar and personality test, among other things. The part I’m most concerned about is the demonstration lesson
I guess it consists of putting together a mock lesson of up to six minutes long and presenting it to a ‘class’ while being recorded. The tape then gets sent on to potential employers in Japan. Sooo we’ll see how well I do with that! I think I’ll just need to practice a lot
